Known issues on the 2012 CX-9. Four recalls apply to the 2012 CX-9. The passenger air bag inflator fitted to certain 2012 CX-9 vehicles is the target of several, restricted to vehicles sold or registered in certain states or to those with an inflator already replaced under a prior recall: humidity and temperature swings could degrade its propellant, and the inflator might rupture, sending out fragments. Until an alternate was fitted, owners were told not to drive. The other, on certain 2012 CX-9 vehicles from a set production window, concerned front ball joints that could corrode from water, possibly freeing the lower control arm.
