Known issues on the 2012 Versa. Eleven recalls are on federal record for this model year. Five involve frontal air bag inflator modules that can rupture or explode, throwing metal fragments at occupants and risking serious injury or death, while two separate side curtain air bag campaigns cover bags that may fail to deploy due to an incorrect propellant mixture or may deploy unexpectedly if a door is slammed, from degraded side impact sensor connector pins. Two separate campaigns cover front coil springs that road salt can corrode, potentially fracturing and puncturing a tire. A center console trim panel that can catch the driver's shoe and delay the shift from accelerator to brake is also covered, along with a shifter rod interference issue that can let the vehicle be shifted out of Park without the brake depressed.
