Known issues on the 2011 Golf. The federal record holds 6 recalls for the 2011 Golf, several involving the driver's air bag. Debris inside the clock spring of certain 2011 Golf vehicles could tear its flat cable and cut power to the driver's frontal air bag so it would not deploy; dealers added a cover or a new clock spring. Certain 2011 Golf diesel vehicles believed to have had an earlier air bag repair could carry a driver's inflator whose propellant breaks down after long exposure to heat and humidity, possibly letting it explode and throw metal fragments; dealers replaced the inflator. Owners made 110 complaints, led by fuel/propulsion (30) and power train (21); 4 reported a crash, 3 a fire and 2 an injury.
