Known issues on the 2000 Golf. NHTSA lists 5 recalls for the 2000 Golf. On certain 2000 Golf vehicles, a bracket anchoring the front suspension control arm to the body might have been poorly welded, so the arm could loosen and eventually separate, making the car hard to steer; dealers checked the weld and replaced the arm if needed. Certain 2000 Golf vehicles were also recalled because hazard switch relay contacts could degrade under higher-wattage turn signal bulbs, leaving the signals and flashers erratic. Owners made 88 complaints, with visibility (20), air bags (16) and engine and engine cooling (13) most common; 3 reported a crash, 1 a fire and 3 an injury.
