Known issues on the 2005 Matrix. Two recalls are on federal record for this model year. The first falls under engine and engine cooling: Toyota recalled certain model year 2005-2008 Corolla and Corolla Matrix vehicles over the engine control module (ECM) used on the subject models equipped with the 1ZZ-FE engine and two-wheel drive, and the notice states that a variety of warnings and consequences are associated with the defect. The second is an exterior lighting recall covering the headlights: certain Anzo combination headlamp assemblies sold as replacement lamps for use on certain passenger vehicles, some of which are not equipped with amber side reflectors. Without the amber reflectors the vehicle will be poorly illuminated. Owners have logged 260 complaints against this model year, and 94 technical service bulletins are on record.
Whether the job is chasing an engine management fault, checking a set of replacement headlamps against the factory lighting specification, or running a scheduled service, the work is held to Toyota’s own procedure and figures for this 2005 Matrix.

WITHOUT THE AMBER REFLECTORS, THE VEHICLE WILL BE POORLY ILLUMINATED, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
