Known issues on the 2004 9-3. The federal record holds 5 recalls for the 2004 9-3, and seat belts run through them. Certain convertibles built within a set production window could have the driver's front belt retractor break so the webbing no longer retracted. A separate recall, covering 14,126 vehicles, addressed certain 2004 9-3 sedans whose front retractors could stop retracting over time. Another, covering 1,658 vehicles, involved certain cars whose front seatback locking mechanism may have been installed wrongly, letting the backrest fold forward in a frontal crash.
