This 2004 Nissan Murano factory service and repair manual is built around this exact year, engine and trim, so the specifications and procedures it gives are the ones Nissan documented for the SL and SE Murano rather than figures borrowed from another model year. It covers the 3.5L V6 (VQ35DE), the engine code stamped on the block and referenced throughout the factory procedures.
Engines covered
- 3.5L V6 — DOHC, naturally aspirated, gasoline

Known issues on the 2004 Murano. Four recalls are on federal record for this model year. The first covers the intake air ducts, which can prematurely age and separate from the intermediate resonator with engine movement, allowing the engine to stall and increasing the risk of a crash. The second covers the rear outboard seat belt webbing, which in certain high-speed frontal crashes can contact the sharp edge of the rear seat back hinge and separate, increasing the risk of injury to an occupant. The third covers the alternator, where an internal wire break can stop the battery from charging, trigger the charge and brake warning lamps, put the engine into a fail-safe condition that limits speed, and ultimately stop the engine, which could result in a crash. The fourth covers the fuel tank, positioned where a front tire can catch a small sharp road object and propel it into the tank, puncturing it and increasing the risk of fire. Owners have filed 678 complaints for the year, and no technical service bulletins are logged. The factory diagnostic and repair procedures behind each of those systems are here.
From an alternator wiring check to a rear seat belt inspection or routine VQ35DE service, it keeps you on the OEM procedure and the correct specification for your specific 2004 Murano.
