Known issues on the 2003 Murano. Six recalls are on federal record for this model year. The first covers intake air ducts that can separate from the intermediate resonator as the material prematurely ages and shrinks, which can stall the engine. The second covers rear outboard seat belt webbing that can be cut by a sharp edge on the seat back hinge in a high-speed frontal crash, raising injury risk if the webbing fully separates. The third covers a wire that can break inside the alternator, stopping the battery from charging, triggering charge and brake warning lamps, forcing the engine into a fail-safe speed limit, and eventually stopping the engine. The fourth covers a fuel tank positioned where a front tire can catch a small sharp object and propel it rearward into the tank, risking a puncture and fire. The fifth covers an improper solder joint on the crank or cam position sensor circuit board that can trigger the service engine soon light, cause a no-start condition, reduce power, or stop the engine without warning. The sixth covers an inadequately tightened nut on the transmission gear selector shaft, which can leave the transmission out of the gear shown on the selector and instrument panel display. Owners have filed 799 complaints for the year. The factory diagnostic and repair procedures behind each of those systems are here.
From an alternator charging fault to a transmission selector linkage check or a routine service interval, it keeps you on the OEM procedure and the correct specification for your specific 2003 Murano.
