This factory service and repair manual for the 2004 Mercedes-Benz SL600 covers the two-door convertible in Base trim with its turbocharged gasoline V12, a 5.5L (336 cu in) engine laid out with single overhead cams. The brakes, suspension and powertrain on a car like this are governed by control units as much as by hardware, and the manual covers them with procedures, specifications, torque values and wiring diagrams.

Known issues on the 2004 SL600. Four recalls sit with wider lines rather than the SL600 by name. Three belong to the 2004 SL-Class line: on certain vehicles, the Sensotronic Brake Control could fall back to its hydraulic reserve early, from a worn harness connection or a failed pump, demanding more pedal effort and travel. Another corrected software coding on certain vehicles that could stop the fuel pump shutting off after a crash. The fourth, against the 2004 R230-chassis models, covered certain cars equipped with Active Body Control whose front strut sensors could make one strut adjust without the other. Four complaints name the 2004 SL600, and five filed against the 2004 SL-Class line split between hydraulic service brakes and suspension, with one equipment entry. The manual covers the brake, suspension and fuel systems with procedures, specifications and diagnostics.
