Known issues on the 1996 SL600. The recall in question sits with the 1996 SL-Class line, not the SL600 by name. NHTSA recorded one campaign there for certain vehicles whose headlamp wiper arms could knock out of line, wedging a blade under the lamp so that a washer command ran the pump nonstop; once the fluid was gone the pump could overheat and catch fire, and dealers replaced it. Two complaints against the 1996 SL-Class line split between the electrical system and engine cooling. The manual's lighting and washer circuits, wiring diagrams and cooling procedures give the specifications and diagnostics behind both.
