2003 GMC Sonoma Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 2003 GMC Sonoma serves a compact pickup in two trims, SL and SLS, and three bodies: the four-door crew cab pickup, the three-door extended cab pickup and the two-door standard cab pickup. Both engines are naturally aspirated overhead-valve gasoline units — a 2.2L inline-four of 134 cubic inches and a 4.3L V6 of 262 cubic inches. Torque values, specifications, wiring diagrams and diagnostic procedures are separated by system so the same book handles either engine without ambiguity.

Known issues on the 2003 Sonoma. One recall applies to this model year, and it is a labeling defect rather than a mechanical one: air bag warning labels carrying incorrect wording, which puts the trucks out of compliance with the federal occupant crash protection standard. Forty owner complaints are logged, spread thinly across structure, the power train and latches and linkages. The body and frame procedures, the transmission and axle diagnostics, and the door and latch service steps in this manual line up with where those reports fall.
CERTAIN PICKUP TRUCKS AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 208, "OCCUPANT CRASH PROTECTION."
SOME OF THESE VEHICLES INCLUDE INCORRECT STATEMENTS ON ONE OF THE AIR BAG WARNING LABELS.
OWNERS WILL BE PROVIDED WITH CORRECT LABELS AND INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN
