1996 GMC Sonoma Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1996 GMC Sonoma takes in three body variants — a three-door extended cab pickup, a two-door extended cab pickup and a two-door standard cab pickup — in SL, SLE and SLS trim. Two engines are covered, the naturally aspirated 2.2L inline-four of 134 cubic inches and the naturally aspirated 4.3L V6 of 262 cubic inches, both with overhead valves. Known issues on the 1996 Sonoma. Eight recalls sit against this model year. The sharpest is a manual transmission built with parts machined out of specification, which can seize and lock the rear wheels while driving. A front brake line can chafe against the oil pan until it loses fluid mid-stop, and an antilock unit can misread drive mode. Two service fuel parts can leak, safety belt webbing can separate, cracked solder joints can stop the wipers, and peeling paint on the windshield flange can weaken windshield retention. Brakes lead 171 complaints, and every one of those systems has procedures here.
