Known issues on the 2003 Caravan. Two recalls are logged for the 2003 Caravan. One covered certain vans, 70,235 vehicles, whose power liftgate latch might fail to catch its striker, letting the liftgate swing open on the road and raising the risk of an unbelted occupant being thrown out in a crash; dealers replaced the liftgate control module. The other affected certain vans with the V6 engine, where a split upper power steering cooler hose could leak fluid onto hot parts and start a fire. Of 195 owner complaints, steering (41) and hydraulic service brakes (31) lead; 13 complaints reported a crash, 13 an injury, 5 a fire and 1 a death.
