Known issues on the 2003 A4 Quattro. Four recalls are on federal record for this model year. Two cover the fuel pump on vehicles with the 1.8L turbo, 2.8L V6, or 3.0L engines: a change in the pump's electrical motor components can leave it inoperative, cutting fuel supply and stalling the vehicle without warning. Another covers an aftermarket Tru-Flow water pump, part number TFW 41127, sold through certain NAPA Auto Parts locations or installed by service technicians, where a timing belt failure from the affected part could shut the engine down. The fourth covers xenon headlamp coating that can degrade over time, reducing luminous transmittance and a driver's field of view. A failure of the timing belt may cause the engine to shut down, potentially increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
Remedy
Gates will notify owners, and dealers will replace the water pump, free of charge. The recall began during May 2014. Owners may contact The Gates Corporation at 1-303-744-1911.
