This factory service and repair manual for the 2001 GMC Savana 3500 catches a shift in the engine lineup: the 8.1L gasoline V8 of 496 cubic inches now heads the list, the 5.7L V8 can be ordered to run either gasoline or a bi-fuel gasoline and LPG combination, and the 4.3L V6 and turbocharged 6.5L diesel V8 continue below them. Known issues on the 2001 Savana 3500. Two recalls appear on the federal record here, both against replacement filters rather than original equipment: one set of fuel filters that can seal poorly at the connection and leak fuel near an ignition source, and one set of oil filters that can seal poorly enough to lose engine oil, again with fire as the stated risk. Two owner complaints are logged, one on the service brakes and one on the suspension. Brake and suspension torque specifications, along with the diagnostic procedures for both, are laid out here system by system.
