Known issues on the 1999 626. Certain 1999 Mazda 626 vehicles received brake fluid reservoir caps made with a worn die and missing their vent holes, so reservoir pressure could fall as pads or shoes wore and temperatures dropped; after long parking, the resulting vacuum could pull the caliper and drum cylinder back and reduce braking. Dealers inspected the cap and replaced it where necessary. The year's other recall involved certain cars whose timing belt tensioner spring could snap and get caught in the belt, possibly stalling the engine, with the tensioner replaced where the affected part was installed.
