1998 Subaru Legacy Service and Repair Manual

This factory service and repair manual for the 1998 Subaru Legacy lists six trims for the year: a GT Limited together with the Brighton, GT, L, Outback and Postal. Power comes from a 2.2L single overhead camshaft flat-four or a 2.5L double overhead camshaft flat-four, both naturally aspirated and running on gasoline. Known issues on the 1998 Legacy. Four recalls apply to the 1998 Legacy. Certain cars equipped with anti-lock brakes could see the pedal sink to the floor in extreme cold, lengthening stopping distances, and dealers replaced the master cylinder. Certain vehicles fitted with specific lots of oil filters could have the filter can crack and spray oil vapor onto the hot exhaust, raising the chance of an engine-bay fire. Certain automatic cars had poorly welded shift levers that could break and let the car move. Owners submitted 114 complaints, including 30 on the engine and engine cooling; 17 complaints reported a crash and 11 an injury.
