1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse Service and Repair Manual

Known issues on the 1998 Eclipse. Three recalls appear on the federal record for the 1998 Eclipse. In one, certain 1998 Eclipse vehicles could have the dash panel pad shift into the throttle cable, keeping the throttle from returning to idle; dealers trimmed the pad back. Another addressed certain 1998 Eclipse vehicles whose transfer case might lock up on too little oil. A further recall involved front lower ball joints on certain 1998 Eclipse vehicles, where a damaged boot could admit water and lead to corrosion and separation. Owners reported 144 complaints, 30 about the power train and 22 about engine and engine cooling; of those complaints, 22 reported a crash, 12 an injury and 5 a fire.
