Known issues on the 1997 MX-6. The 1997 MX-6 appears in 2 recalls on the federal record. In certain cars, an outer spring on the timing belt tensioner could snap and jam in the belt, possibly stalling the engine; dealers inspected the tensioner and replaced it where needed. Certain 1997 MX-6 vehicles were also covered for ignition switch contact grease that could conduct electricity and overheat the switch, a fire hazard, and dealers installed a new switch.
