1997 Cadillac DeVille Service and Repair Manual

Known issues on the 1997 DeVille. Two recalls are on federal record for this model year. The first covers the fuel system: the nylon tubing used in the fuel rail construction can degrade and crack, and cracking of the fuel rail or return line tubing can leak fuel into the engine compartment, which in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire. The second covers the antilock brake system: the electronic brake control module or the electronic brake and traction control module can cause the ABS to cycle during a non-ABS brake application, increasing stopping distance and the risk of a crash. Owners have filed 306 complaints for the year, and no technical service bulletins are logged. The factory diagnostic and repair procedures behind both of those systems are here.
Whether you're tracing a fuel line for leaks or checking the ABS module for unwanted cycling, it keeps you on the OEM procedure and the correct specification for your specific 1997 DeVille.
SOME PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 4.0L V8 ENGINES HAVE A CONDITION IN WHICH THE NYLON TUBING USED IN THE FUEL RAIL CONSTRUCTION MAY DEGRADE AND CRACK. ADDITIONALLY, THE 1995 MODEL YEAR USES A UNI
FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.
DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE ENGINE FUEL RAIL WITH A NEW STAINLESS STEEL FUEL
