Known issues on the 1986 DeVille. Three recalls are on federal record for this model year. The first covers the fuel filter connection: an out-of-spec fitting can prevent the O-ring from seating correctly, and an inadequate seal can develop into a fuel leak that becomes a fire hazard near an ignition source. The second covers the anti-lock brake pressure and warning switch, which can seep brake fluid and, combined with water contamination reaching the hydraulic pump motor and ABS electrical relays during assembly, cause a total loss of rear brakes and power-assisted front braking, or a loss of ABS function on its own. The third covers the push-pull headlight switch, whose electrical contacts can cause the headlight circuit to flicker or cut out suddenly, cutting visibility without warning at night or in severe weather.
