Known issues on the 1996 Prelude. Six recalls are on federal record for this model year. Five cover aftermarket exterior lighting: replacement headlamp and combination lamp assemblies from several aftermarket suppliers were sold without the required amber side reflex reflectors, which reduces lighting visibility to other drivers and can contribute to a crash. The sixth covers the front lower control arm ball joint, which can prematurely wear out and, in the worst case, separate, collapsing the front suspension, causing sudden deceleration, loss of power, and reduced steering control. Owners have filed 4 complaints for the year. The factory diagnostic and repair procedures behind each of those systems are here.
Whether you're chasing a suspension noise, swapping a headlamp assembly, or working through the H22A1's VTEC service intervals, it keeps you on the OEM procedure and correct spec for your specific 1996 Prelude.
