Known issues on the 1985 E-250 Econoline Club Wagon. The 1985 wagon's five recalls span steering, cooling and fuel handling. The steering drag link and pitman arm joint is one of them: the rubber around the ball stud and socket can deteriorate until metal contacts metal. Heater and bypass hoses that deteriorate in extreme conditions make up another, and severe-duty underhood temperatures that can force fuel from the filler pipe a third. Four owner complaints are logged with NHTSA, two on the electrical system and two on the fuel system. Steering linkage inspection, cooling service and fuel delivery diagnostics are all covered by this manual.
