Known issues on the 2021 Z4. Five recalls are recorded for this model year, and three of them are fire or crash risks in the engine bay: a starter that can overheat and catch fire as an internal part wears, a starter relay that can corrode until it overheats and shorts, and a fuel tank seam whose weld can fail and let fuel escape. A fourth has engine-management software dropping braking assist during start-up, leaving mechanical braking only. The fifth covers a seat belt retractor that may not do its job in a crash.
