This factory service and repair manual for the 2006 BMW Z4 has two rooflines to answer to, a two-door coupe and a two-door convertible, and three naturally aspirated inline-sixes to specify: 2.5, 3.0 and 3.2 liters, the smallest of them 152 cubic inches, all double overhead cam and all on gasoline. Seven trims are covered, from the 2.5i and Roadster 3.0i through the Coupe 3.0si to the M and M Roadster, so equipment differences matter as much as displacement when a procedure is looked up.

Known issues on the 2006 Z4. Both recalls on the federal record for this year come back to the same part: the heater in the positive crankcase ventilation valve can short. In one, the short melts the parts inside the valve and can start a fire even with the car parked and switched off; in the other, the heater overheats and can ignite while driving or shortly after being parked. Of 91 complaints, 55 name the steering, 12 the electrical system and 11 the air bags — crankcase ventilation, steering and restraint work are all specified here.
