Known issues on the 2009 ML350. NHTSA holds three recalls for the 2009 ML350. On certain vehicles the driver's frontal air bag inflator could burst during deployment and throw metal fragments, so dealers replaced the module. Two others address certain vehicles whose brake booster housings could corrode from trapped moisture; owners were told not to drive until repaired. NHTSA also filed one recall against the 2009 M-Class line, covering certain vehicles equipped with the optional power liftgate, where water past a tail lamp seal could short its control unit and lead to a fire. Air bags lead the 92 complaints on the 2009 ML350 with 39, then seat belts (18); 6 reported a fire. The 2009 M-Class line has 1 more. Air bag and brake diagnostics are covered.
