Known issues on the 2009 ES 350. Five recalls are on federal record for this model year. Four of them cover the passenger-side frontal air bag inflator module. On two, an inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, resulting in serious injury or death; one of those reaches vehicles whose driver or passenger frontal air bag inflators had already been replaced under a prior recall using inflators of the same design. On the other two, an inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants, resulting in serious injury or death. The fifth covers the accelerator pedal, which can get stuck in the wide open position when it is trapped by an unsecured or incompatible driver's floor mat; a stuck open accelerator pedal may result in very high vehicle speeds and make it difficult to stop the vehicle, which could cause a crash, serious injury or death. Owners have filed 173 complaints for the year, and no technical service bulletins are on record. The diagnostic and repair procedures behind each of those systems are here.
Whether you are working through the supplemental restraint system, inspecting the pedal and floor area, or simply following a scheduled service interval, it holds you to the OEM procedure and the right specification for the 2009 ES 350.
