This factory service and repair manual for the 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche has one body and two engines to reconcile. The body is the four-door crew cab pickup; the engines are a 325-cubic-inch 5.3-liter V8 that runs flex-fuel or gasoline and a 364-cubic-inch 6.0-liter V8 on gasoline, both overhead-valve and naturally aspirated. Known issues on the 2008 Avalanche. The federal record holds four recalls for the year. A frontal air bag inflator can burst when it deploys, sending sharp metal into the passenger compartment; that mechanism accounts for two of the four. The other two are heat and fire risks in the heated washer fluid module, where a short circuit on the printed board can smoke, smell or ignite. Of 295 complaints, 142 name air bags, 32 structure and 27 the electrical system. Restraint system diagnosis, body structure repair and circuit tracing are all specified in these pages.
