Known issues on the 2008 S4. Two recalls are on federal record for this model year, and both concern the passenger-side frontal air bag inflator module. The first covers inflators that can explode from propellant degradation during deployment, sending metal fragments toward the driver or other occupants. The second, issued separately for vehicles in specific "Zone B" states and regions, covers inflators that can rupture during deployment, again risking serious injury or death from flying metal fragments.
