Known issues on the 2006 HHR. Six recalls are on the federal record for this year, and the heaviest concern the ignition and the restraints. The key can be withdrawn with the switch out of the off position, so the car can roll away; separately, weight hanging from the key ring can pull the switch out of run, stalling the engine and leaving the air bags unable to fire in the crash that follows. Another covers a passenger sensing system that aftermarket leather seat covers can confuse, arming or disabling the front bag wrongly. Of 1,006 complaints, 458 name the steering and 142 the electrical system, both diagrammed and diagnosed here.
