Known issues on the 2000 Navigator. The federal record carries 4 recalls for the 2000 Navigator. Much of that record concerns the speed control deactivation switch: on certain 2000 Navigator vehicles with speed control it could overheat, smoke or burn, and fires occurred even while parked with the ignition off, so owners were told to have the switch disconnected as an interim step, with a new switch to follow once parts were available. Certain 2000 Navigator vehicles built within set production windows had a wiper gear case switch that could overheat, stop the wipers or ignite its plastic cover.
