Known issues on the 1998 Mirage. Two recalls are on record for this year. One concerned certain 1998 Mirage vehicles with the smaller engine: the crankshaft pulley bolt could loosen until the pulley dropped away, cutting power steering assist. The second recalled certain 1998 Mirage vehicles, 31 of them, whose brake booster vacuum hose might carry a faulty check valve that could stick, weakening or removing power assist to the brakes; dealers replaced the hose. Of 43 owner complaints, air bags (9) and hydraulic service brakes (8) come first, and 12 complaints reported a crash, 7 an injury and 2 a fire.
