Known issues on the 1997 Boxster. Six recalls are on federal record for this model year. On Tiptronic-equipped cars, a misadjusted key-lock cable can let the selector lever move out of Park without the parking brake set, risking a rollaway. The ignition switch can crack, cutting power to the air conditioning, heater blower, headlamps, and wipers. On Tiptronic cars, bearing sleeves inside the intermediate selector levers can seize, making the shift lever increasingly hard to move and eventually unable to activate. A child-seat air bag deactivation kit's contact buckle can fail to deactivate the air bag, risking severe injury to a child seat occupant if the air bag deploys in a crash. Two separate recalls cover aftermarket corner and bumper lamp assemblies that lack the required amber side reflectors, reducing visibility to other drivers.
