1996 Plymouth Neon Service and Repair Manual

Known issues on the 1996 Neon. Two recalls were filed with NHTSA against the 1996 Neon. Certain 1996 Neon vehicles were recalled because a damaged rear piston seal in the brake master cylinder could leak fluid and weaken half of the braking system, with the warning light coming on before any partial loss; the rear piston assembly was replaced. The other, 15,000 vehicles, covered certain 1996 Neon cars built at one assembly plant, where the engine wiring harness could rub the exhaust gas recirculation tube and short, causing electrical faults including stalling. Owners filed 308 complaints, led by engine and engine cooling at 167 and the electrical system at 45; 32 reported a crash, 11 a fire and 25 an injury.
