This factory service and repair manual for the 1996 Chevrolet Beretta pairs the 2.2-liter inline-four of 134 cubic inches with the 3.1-liter V6 of 189 cubic inches, both overhead-valve, naturally aspirated and gasoline-fueled, in a two-door coupe offered as Base or Z26. Two engines, one body and two trims make for a compact book in scope but not in depth: the fuel, ignition, cooling and emissions procedures are given separately for each engine, and the brake, steering, suspension and wiring sections cover both cars.

Known issues on the 1996 Beretta. Two recalls sit on the federal record. One covers replacement fuel pressure regulators built without their O-ring and retainer, a missing seal that lets fuel escape and, near a source of ignition, start a fire. The other is a compliance failure in which the interior lamps can switch on by themselves while the car is being driven, startling the driver into a momentary loss of control. Complaints reach 80, split evenly between service brakes and the engine and cooling system at 17 each, with 8 on electrical.
