Known issues on the 1993 S4. Two recalls are on federal record for this model year. The first covers the fuel feed line running from the fuel filter to the engine, which can prematurely age and shrink from the turbocharger's under-hood heat and seep fuel at the connection. The second covers the front air bag sensors, which can fail to meet durability standards over the vehicle's lifetime and, if they malfunction, allow the air bag to deploy without warning and cause the driver to lose control. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. A FUEL FEED LINE CONNECTING THE FUEL FILTER TO THE ENGINE CAN PREMATURELY AGE AND SHRINK THROUGH EXPOSURE TO HIGH UNDER HOOD TEMPERATURE CAUSED BY THE TURBOCHARGER.
Consequence
THIS CAN RESULT IN FUEL SEEPAGE AT THE CONNECTION.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL FEED LINE FROM THE FUEL FILTER TO THE ENGINE WITH A FUEL LINE OF SHRINKAGE-PROOF MATERIAL.
