This factory service and repair manual for the 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis follows a four-door sedan in GS and LS trim with the 4.6L V8 of 281 cubic inches, a single-overhead-cam, naturally aspirated gasoline engine. An overhead-cam layout puts valve train service, timing components and fastener sequences into procedures of their own, and the clearances and torque values here are written for that engine specifically, alongside the wiring diagrams and diagnostic charts for the chassis and body systems around it.

Known issues on the 1992 Grand Marquis. Three recalls are on the federal record and all three trace back to the speed control circuit. Two describe the speed control deactivation switch: it can leak internally and then overheat, smoke or burn, and it can develop a resistive short that starts a fire at the left front of the engine bay whether the engine is running or off. The third covers earlier repair harnesses wired against circuit polarity, which leaves the fuse in the output circuit where it protects nothing. Of 346 complaints, 61 name the service brakes, 45 the electrical system and 34 speed control.
