Known issues on the 1991 Thunderbird. The 1991 Thunderbird has four recalls to its name. One concerns the automatic transmission's park rod assembly, whose park cam has inadequate surface hardness and can let Park disengage or never engage, risking a roll-away with the parking brake off. Another covers loose windshield wiper motor nuts that can alter the wipe pattern or jam the wipers. A third is the ignition switch that can short internally and overheat. Owners have filed 128 complaints with NHTSA, with 19 on the service brakes and 16 each on the electrical system and seat belts.
