This factory service and repair manual for the 1989 Chevrolet K2500 reaches across three body forms, a two-door standard cab pickup, a two-door extended cab and a two-door cab and chassis, which is a wider spread than the engine list. That list holds four overhead-valve, naturally aspirated units: a 4.3L V6, 5.0L and 5.7L gasoline V8s and a 6.2L diesel V8. Cheyenne, Scottsdale and Silverado trims fill out a book indexed by system rather than by model.

Known issues on the 1989 K2500. Three recalls are recorded federally against this year. Two involve replacement filters: an oil filter that can seal inadequately and let the engine lose its oil, and a fuel filter that can leave a poor seal at its connection so gasoline leaks and, near an ignition source, burns. The third is an instruction error, with trucks supplied with wrong guidance for adjusting the rear lap-shoulder belts, leaving an occupant unrestrained in a crash. Four owner complaints follow, on the service brakes, tires and structure, all systems this manual specifies and diagnoses.
