Known issues on the 1983 Firebird. Seat belts and the parking brake account for the 4 owner complaints on record, with 3 and 2 respectively, and the 2 recalls for this year line up with those same areas. Certain 1983 Firebird coupes equipped with a manual transmission and rear disc brakes had parking brake adjusters that quit working once the pads wore, weakening the hold on a hill. Separately, certain 1983 Firebird cars could have a displaced spring cover that kept the front shoulder belt from retracting, leaving slack; dealers added retaining springs.
