Known issues on the 2021 X3. Eleven recalls are on the federal record, and fire risk runs through most of them. A failed weld at the fuel tank inlet check valve can let the filling pipe separate and leak fuel. Loose welding beads inside the hybrid battery can bridge cells and short them. The engine starter can overheat and ignite, either through a corroding relay or through wear on an internal part. Of 106 complaints, 31 concern the electrical system, 10 the engine and 9 the structure — systems this manual specifies, wires and diagnoses.
