Known issues on the 2016 X1. Three recalls stand against this year. One covers a driver's seat belt retractor whose vehicle-sensitive locking mechanism may not lock as designed, so under heavy braking it can catch with the occupant already too far forward. Another concerns a B-pillar that absorbs too little energy if an occupant's head strikes it. The third covers a steering gearbox built with incorrect parts, which can malfunction and cost the driver control. Of 159 complaints, 33 are on the power train, 15 on wipers and visibility and 15 on the structure.
