Known issues on the 2014 Sorento. Six recalls are on federal record for this model year, and the antilock brake hydraulics account for three of them. Brake fluid may leak inside the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU), and if the HECU short circuits there is an increased risk of an engine compartment fire; vehicles previously recalled under that campaign were recalled again for the same leak, where an electrical short in the HECU increases the risk of a fire while parked or driving, and a third recall in the same antilock-brake hydraulics area cites an engine compartment fire while parked or driving that can increase the risk of injury. On the engine side, machining errors during the engine manufacturing process are cited, and bearing wear may result in the engine seizing, increasing the risk of a crash; Sorentos that previously received an engine replacement under that campaign were later recalled again for their fuel lines, where a fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire. The sixth recall covers the front axle shaft on certain front-wheel-drive Sorentos manufactured January 7, 2013 through March 12, 2013 and equipped with 2.4 liter engines, where a fractured front axle may result in a loss of power to the wheels. Owners have filed 1,354 complaints for the year and Kia has issued 215 technical service bulletins. The factory diagnostic and repair procedures behind each of those systems are here.
From diagnosing engine bearing noise to brake-hydraulic and HECU work or a front axle inspection on a 2.4L model, it keeps you on the OEM procedure and the correct specification for your specific 2014 Sorento.
