Fitment is the whole point of this one: the 2009 Scion xD service and repair manual is keyed to your car's exact year, engine and trim, so the numbers it gives for the 1.8L four-cylinder (2ZR-FE) are the ones Scion published for 2009 and not a close approximation borrowed from an adjacent year.
Engines
- 1.8L l4 GAS Naturally Aspirated
Trims
- Automatic
- Standard
Known issues on the 2009 xD. Six recalls are on federal record for this model year. Two of them land on the power window master switch: in the earlier campaign the switch assemblies were built using a less precise process for lubricating their internal components, and irregularities in that lubrication process may cause the assemblies to malfunction and overheat, and if the switch overheats it may melt, possibly resulting in a fire; in the later one grease lubricant may have been inconsistently applied to the sliding electrical contacts during manufacture of the switch, and if those contacts are not protected by lubricant, debris and moisture that get into the switch may cause a short circuit and the switch assembly may overheat and melt, increasing the risk of a fire. A third covers the seats, where the springs used for the seat rails on the driver's seat and the seat rails of the front passenger seat of three-door models may break; if the spring breaks the seat may not lock in position, and in the event of a crash the seat could move, increasing the risk of injury to the seat occupant. A fourth covers the hydraulic brake vacuum power assist on 1.8L cars originally sold in or currently registered in cold-weather states: when driving under certain unique conditions in extremely low ambient temperatures, the intake manifold suction port for the brake vacuum can become blocked due to the freezing of condensation, which could lead to an increase in vehicle stopping distance, and a crash could occur. The last two are labeling recalls, from Gulf States Toyota and Southeast Toyota, covering cars sold without the requisite load carrying capacity modification labels; that does not meet the standard requirements, and a driver may overload a vehicle, which may increase the risk of a crash. Owners have filed 35 complaints for the year and Scion has issued 26 technical service bulletins. The diagnostic and repair procedures behind each of those systems are here.
Chasing a power window master switch fault, inspecting a seat track, or working through a scheduled service interval, it keeps you on the OEM procedure and the correct specification for your specific 2009 xD.
