Known issues on the 2008 xD. Five recalls are on federal record for this model year. The first covers the seats: the springs used for the driver's seat rails, and for the front passenger seat rails on three-door models, may break, and if a spring breaks the seat may not lock in position, so in a crash the seat could move and increase the risk of injury to the occupant. The second covers the power window master switch, where the switch assemblies were built using a less precise process for lubricating their internal components; irregularities in that lubrication process may cause the assembly to malfunction and overheat, and if the switch overheats it may melt, possibly resulting in a fire. The third covers the vacuum power assist for the hydraulic service brakes, and reaches only 1.8L cars originally sold in or currently registered in nineteen named states: when driving under certain unique conditions in extremely low ambient temperatures, the intake manifold suction port for the brake vacuum can become blocked due to the freezing of condensation, which could lead to an increase in vehicle stopping distance and a crash. The remaining two are labeling recalls from two regional Toyota distributors, Gulf States Toyota and Southeast Toyota, on vehicles sold without the load carrying capacity modification labels required by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 110, covering tire selection and rims; one is recorded as simply not meeting the standard requirements, and under the other a driver may overload the vehicle, which may increase the risk of a crash.
