Moisture intrusion and manufacturing variability could make the driver's dual-stage inflator rupture on certain 2008 RX-8 vehicles; on certain others, named in an earlier passenger air bag recall but still unrepaired, the passenger inflator's propellant could break down with prolonged humidity and temperature swings until it exploded. Owners of both groups were told not to drive until the inflator was replaced. Engine and exhaust heat could also crack the main fuel pump pipe on certain cars, letting fuel leak.
