Holding the parked engine at high rpm for too long could let exhaust heat melt surrounding parts on certain 2005 RX-8 vehicles, which might disable the oxygen sensor or backup lights, upset the fuel gauge or damage the tank enough to leak fuel; dealers inspected and replaced parts. Certain cars built within a set production period were recalled because heat could degrade the fuel pump sealing rings until fuel escaped.
