Known issues on the 2006 Impreza. The federal record holds 10 recalls for the 2006 Impreza, and several concern the passenger frontal air bag. On certain 2006 Impreza vehicles originally sold or registered in certain states, the inflator's propellant can break down after years of heat and humidity, so the inflator may burst during deployment and throw metal fragments at occupants; dealers replace the inflator. A follow-up campaign covered certain 2006 Impreza vehicles, again limited to those originally sold or registered in listed states, whose inflator had already been swapped for one of the same design. Owners lodged 56 complaints, led by air bags (20), engine and engine cooling (7) and power train (7); 3 complaints reported a crash and 2 an injury.
