This factory service and repair manual for the 2006 Mercedes-Benz S55 AMG narrows the engine question to one answer. By this model year the listing shows only the 5.5L V8 (332 cu in), a single-overhead-cam, supercharged gasoline unit, installed in a four-door sedan with one Base trim. The specifications, torque values and wiring diagrams here cover that supercharged engine and the sedan body.

Known issues on the 2006 S55 AMG. Owners have lodged two complaints about the 2006 S55 AMG; both involve the engine, and one also cites the electrical system. Separately, NHTSA lists one recall filed against the 2006 W220-chassis models. On certain of those cars equipped with Active Body Control, soldering flaws inside the front-strut acceleration sensors could make one strut react to body movement while the opposite strut stayed put, so the front end sat unevenly. Dealers checked the sensors and replaced them where needed. Engine diagnostics, electrical wiring diagrams and the suspension procedures and torque values in this manual cover the systems involved.
