Known issues on the 2001 S55 AMG. NHTSA filed five recalls against the 2001 S-Class line. On certain vehicles, humidity could corrode the steel inside the Active Body Control high-pressure hose, letting hydraulic fluid leak onto hot parts near the catalytic converter with a fire risk. Another covered certain vehicles whose instrument cluster lighting could fail, leaving gauges unreadable. A third involved certain vehicles with an undersized conductor in the blower motor fuse holder that could overheat and disable the blower, and with it defrosting. Two complaints name this car, on exterior lighting and the electrical system; NHTSA logged 38 against the 2001 S-Class line. Suspension, cluster and fuse procedures, wiring diagrams and diagnostics apply.
